Signal processing
EDO RSS signal processors are the heart of our ELINT/ESM systems. It is the signal processor that takes the output of the microwave tuner/demodulator, digitizes the signal in real time, and performs various measurements on the resultant digital signal to uniquely identify it. The signal and/or its characteristics are then displayed in a meaningful way on the operator's console.
EDO RSS has long provided signal processors to the U.S. Military—beginning with the ULQ-16, the standard pulse processor for the U.S. Navy, which now has over 900 units operating in the fleet. This heritage continues up to the present day; EDO RSS is providing the ELINT/ESM signal processor to the U.S. Army for the IEWCS program.
EDO RSS also provides state-of-the-art high speed digitizing systems, used for precision ELINT purposes. In these systems, the IF output from the microwave tuner is coherently digitized and stored for post-mission analysis, thereby capturing and preserving detailed signal parameters. This allows for very detailed post-mission analysis and the ability to identify a particular signal. Furthermore, by storing the data digitally, the drawbacks associated with magnetic tape are avoided.
